Back to art!

Life has been crazy busy with school. I haven’t had time to draw, paint, sketch in ages. This is my first attempt in ages! I need to get back into the habit.

Bryce Dallas Howard on Being an Artist

Bryce talks about her learning disabilities, how a lot of actors have to go on 64 auditions to get at least one job, and the power of day jobs. Bryce says how financial planning is career planning. It’s a very eye opening interview for all artists, not just actors.

Beginnings

So basically I’m going to start documenting my artistic progress. The second picture is “Cubbie” he’s a mascot of Art Instruction Schools. When I was a kid in the 90’s they used to mail out a test that you had to mail back and I never mailed mine back, so I just wanted to post it here.

Miss Potter

Miss Potter is one of the few movies that tells the life of a happy artist. Beatrix Potter was a children’s author and illustrator, and her books to this day are still widely read to children.

The film chronicles her journey to become an author, her struggle for romance, and ultimately her pursuit of happiness.  The movie is rated PG, so it’s pretty family friendly.

After watching this movie, I wanted to know more about the life of Beatrix Potter, and researched more of her life. I found out that not only was Beatrix Potter an author and artist, she was also a scientist and conservationist.

She lead a fascinating life in my opinion. I give this movie five stars.

Four Podcasts I love

haute-chocolate-styled-stock-photography-podcast-4-final

2016 is the year that I discovered podcasts. I’ve known for years that podcasts are popular but I’ve never actually taken the time to listen to them and give them a fair try.

I needed something to listen to while I draw and paint because I just hate total silence, so  I went on iTunes and discovered all of these podcasts.

I await new episodes of these podcasts like I await new episodes of my favorite TV shows. These are the podcasts I currently listen to:

Lore

Lore is an award winning and critically acclaimed podcast about creepy things that have happened in history. The podcast is interesting, smart, creepy and at times scary.

It’s going to be a TV show soon, and don’t worry the podcast isn’t going to go away. If you think that history is boring then just try listening to lore. You won’t be bored by these stories.

Myths & Legends

Myths & Legends tells stories of myths, folktales, legends, etc. The creator also tells the origins of stories we think we know. These are stories from around the world. Some of the stories I haven’t heard of so it’s nice to be exposed to them.

Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History

Dan Carlin’s been called America’s best history teacher that doesn’t work at a school. He tells history in a really fascinating way and millions of people are listeners.

Sharpened Artist: A Colored Pencil Podcast

I’ve written about this podcast before but I love it. The podcast is about how to draw with colored pencils, however there’s also advice for those that want to be successful working artists.

Colored pencil art is big business right now and popular among hobbyists as well. Anyone that loves the colored pencil medium is going to learn a lot from this podcast.

Hallmark Channel & Colin Ferguson

This has nothing to do with art but I’m totally excited. I’m a huge fan of Hallmark Channel. Colin Ferguson did a movie for the Hallmark Channel, Every Christmas Has a Story, and so Colin & Hallmark Channel were taking questions from fans, so I sent mine in and Colin answered it!

Yay. I’m mini-famous! Ha ha. Actually I think it was sweet of both Hallmark & Colin to do this. I loved, Every Christmas Has a Story, and highly recommend it if you love heartwarming movies. 😀

Following an on-camera flub in which she says she doesn't like Christmas, a popular morning show host is assigned, along with her producer who is also her old college flame, to cover the Christmas week festivities in a town known for its tremendous holiday celebration. But when she suspects something is amiss in Hollyvale, the investigative reporter surfaces and she becomes determined to get to the bottom of it, rediscovering her lost Christmas spirit - and rekindling the flames of love -- in the process.
